SNOOPING ON A
CHASSIS SWOP

Torn apart after 17 year rust affair

Defender-chassis-d110709-s0029.jpg

A-frame constructed from 5" posts and secured to shed

Used bulkhead/wing/chassis brackets with rope secured to caribiners, one each side

Used bulkhead/wing/chassis brackets with rope secured to caribiners, one each side

Engine leveller used to straddle the engine

Antique block and tackle on loan from a mate - used to lift Harrier wings into place at BAe Dunsfold!

Front end all set up and ready to lift

Engine hoist used to lift rear end

Spare wheel mount seemed great lifting point, but bound up to spread the load over all 3 bolts - no sign of flex, but keep the door closed!

Rear end lifted 6" to get another 5" post between body and chassis

Padding ensured load goes into sidewalls of loadbay so as not to push the floor up

Jumping up and down on front cross-member while winching up eased bulkhead brackets from chassis

There you go... easy!

Nice day's work!

Next stage is to make front end safe with extra woodwork

Made safe with spreader to stop brackets collapsing in and cross-beam to A-frame

Few old tyres for piece of mind

Job done.
